Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: burial urns, crematin, funeral — admin @ 11:07 am

When an individual passes on, there are many decisions that must be made. One important decision concerns the remains. There are many different options for families of individuals who have died. The two most common ways to handle the remains of a loved one is to purchase a casket and bury them or have their remains cremated.

Generally the most traditional choice is a standard burial in a casket. Many families choose this option because they are able to visit a gravestone and know that their loved one is there. A standard burial is often preferred because the individual is being left alone and is at peace.

Cremation is another choice that many families make. Cremation is when the remains of a deceased individual is converted into ashes. This is a fairly common practice on individuals who may have been severely injured or disfigured in an accident or do not have any family members around to make decisions.

The decision to cremate a loved one is often difficult, but there is also an option that is a combination of the two. Once remains are cremated, there are placed in a urn. A urn is a container

Cancun Beach Being Restored At A Record Pace

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: Cancun, Cancun resorts, Cancun vacation, Mexico — admin @ 10:11 am

When Hurricane Wilma swept through Cancun last October the mighty winds stripped away 8 miles of some of the most beautiful sandy beach in the world. Everyone from Mexican President Vincente Fox down to the local residents knew that the beach had to be restored or Cancun’s future was in serious danger.

Within weeks the Mexican government pledged $21 million to restore the beach. Now they have made good on that promise, and a massive barge being run by a Belgian firm is working day and night to replace the sand.

The target date to have the brilliant white sand back in place is the end of April, and already the large earth moving machines are smoothing the sand dredged up from the sea bed.

**A long-standing problem

Cancun has some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches. But the resort town of roughly 300,000 is perched on the extreme southeast end of the Yucatan Peninsula, looking out into the Caribbean, and too often is directly in the path of hurricanes that come sweeping in from the sea.

The problem of beach erosion existed long before Hurricane Wilma. Local Cancun officials have known for years that the shoreline was eroding

Robotic Arms and Robotics

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: linear motors rotary table — admin @ 4:09 pm

The word robot comes from the Czech word “robota”, meaning “forced labor.” The stuff of science fiction robotics in the 21st century is different than your parents or your grandparents ideas of robotics. What used to be thought of as futuristic improbability is now becoming a reality.

There are, theoretically, three Laws of Robotics. The Laws of Robotics were developed by a small group of scientists who believe that robotics is the wave of the future. The first law, referred to as law zero, is that a robot may not injure humanity, or, though inaction, allow humanity to come to harm. The second law states that a robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm, unless this would violate a higher order law. This law was created so that mankind would seek not to create robots that would harm people. The third law is that a robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with a higher order law. And finally the final law is that a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not

Alcohol: Health Benefit or Health Risk?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: Alcohol: Health Benefit or Health Risk — admin @ 12:07 pm

We’ve all heard the news about the potential heart-health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption. It’s no wonder such stories grab headlines. They’re the nutritional equivalent of the classic media formula of “man bites dog.” As for the rest of us, we celebrate by raising a glass to our health.

But whenever I hear one of these reports, I wonder whether it actually ends up doing more harm than good. Most fail to mention the health risks of excessive alcohol consumption, which will do a body far more damage than moderate consumption will do it good. And they leave the impression that health benefits apply to men and women alike. Not so.

Most of the research regarding alcohol’s effects in raising good cholesterol, or HDL, levels looks at men and post-menopausal women. Very little, if any, evidence suggests that alcohol consumption in younger women is beneficial. Even worse, other studies associate younger women’s alcohol consumption with increased disease risk.

Up to 4 percent of breast cancers can be attributed to alcohol. According to a recent study in the British Journal of Cancer, every drink increases a woman’s chances of developing breast cancer. In a recent summary of 63 published studies,

Is it Art – Instant drawing and the digital darkroom

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: aesthetic, art, attitude, experienc, opinion, painting, photography — admin @ 6:00 am

Henri Cartier-Bresson is reported to have said after he had given up photography.

All I care about these days is paintingphotography has never been more than a way into painting, a sort of instant drawing.

No one disagrees that painting is art, albeit the quality may vary but it is always considered art. Why isnt this the case with photography?? It is agreed that there is an art to photography but this means it is a craft but photography of the highest order is referred to as photographic art. Likewise images created on or enhanced by a computer are labelled as digital art or computer art. Whereas painting is just art, be it water colour, oil or acrylic.

In part the problem lies with the artist. The discussion about photography is littered knee deep with technique and coloured with technical jargon. Seldom if ever is the art discussed. I have yet to find a discussion about a painters work where the types and sizes of the brushes scores a mention. And quite frankly who really cares? If I was to twiddle the knobs like Ansel Adams would I make an Adams photograph? The simple answer is no, Im

2006 Pittsburgh Pirates Preview

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: Pittsburgh Pirates tickets, Ticket — admin @ 4:07 am

2005 Overview:

Pittsburgh Pirates fans had little to cheer about in 2005. The only real bright spot for the club was the continued improvement of outfielder Jason Bay (.206 32 101) who played in all 162 games in 2005 for the team. Beyond Bay there was little offense to speak of for the entire season. Only 1st basemen Daryle Ward (.280 12 63) and newcomer Brad Eldred (.221 12 27) did much while sophomore 2nd baseman Jose Castillo ((.268 11 53)) provided the rest of offense for the Bucs 2005 lineup.

Pittsburghs starting pitching in 2006 was almost non-existent. Dave Williams (10-11 4.41) led the staff with 10 wins, while Kip Wells ( 8-18 5.09), newcomers Mark Redman (5-15 4.90) joined Oliver Perez (7-5 5.85), rookie Zach Duke (8- 1 1.81 in 14 game starts) and Josh Fogg (6-11 5.05) to complete the rest of the Pirate rotation. Closer Jose Mesa (2-8 4.76 37 saves) managed to appear in 55 games in order to help keep things interesting. The Pirates finished the season with a last place 67-95 record.

Off Season Moves:
General Manager Dave Littlefield addressed the Pirates offensive needs by signing free agent slugger Jeromy Burnitz (.258
