Baltimore Orioles vs. Seattle Mariners

The Orioles had a long time without picking up a victory from the Red Sox. Finally they did it last week at Baltimore. Erik Bedard pitched seven effective innings for the Orioles, who had lost 13 straight to Boston — including eight this season — since Sept. 2, 2005. The victory also enabled Baltimore to end an eight-game home skid against the Red Sox.

Bedard (5-2) gave up one run, a pair of doubles and three walks. The left-hander who came in with a 7.57 ERA in six career starts against the Red Sox struck out three. It was his first victory in five starts since April 20.

“It’s a win that we needed to have, but it’s also special because I competed with these guys the last three years,” said Millar, whose two-run homer gave Baltimore a lead it never lost Wednesday night in a 4-3 victory. “It was a lot of fun.”

This victory will give a confidence boost to the Orioles players. They really need this win because of what it represent, the ending of the losing streak against Boston and also the opportunity to try and reach Toronto for the third place of their division.

The Mariners suffered a three game sweep in Oakland last week. The last game was played on Thursday and they fell 6-3 in a game they started winning in the first inning one run up. But the As contested with three in the bottom of the first and from that point they held the lead through the whole game.

The Mariners, who are 13th in the American League in hitting against lefties got eight hits but no runs off the left-handed Zito and fell to 4-10 against left-handed starters. Meanwhile Jamie Moyer turned in his poorest start of the season giving up seven runs (five earned) in six innings. In his career he is 10-7 against Oakland but the Mariners have lost the last five times he’s started against the A’s.

Seattle at the bottom of the AL West couldve used the victory to try and climb to reach the teams on top of the standings. Unfortunately for them it just didnt happened; theyll have a chance to improve their record this week against the Orioles. They just need to focus and try no to commit so many mistakes in the games that could cost them a lot.

The team that make fewest mistakes and play focused will win this series. Since both teams are so compared it will be an interesting series to bet on because the lines will be very low. How To Really Ride A Scooter

You have all see them around the town where you live. A grown man or woman, riding a two wheeled scooter.. Wearing tight clothing, helmet and gloves, they look more alien than human as they ride around in strange attire and what looks to be a most uncomfortable position.

So what is going on with bikers? Why do they wear weird looking clothes? Is all that gear they have really necessary?

A biker is always in a constant struggle against wind resistance. It is a battle that can never be won. Everything from the bikers helmet, shorts, shoes and bike are made to make the fight against wind resistance easier.

A rider’s position on the scooter bike is designed to reduce the area of the body that comes into contact with the air. The more aerodynamic the position on the bike the less power the cyclist has to produce to maintain, or achieve, a given speed.

Motorcycle shorts have always been the brunt of many jokes from those who do not understand the function they serve. The shorts are skin-tight to reduce the air resistance and to keep the fabric from rubbing and moving next to the skin which may create a sore spot.

Of course, what may be the most desirable feature of cycling shorts is the padding which is built into the seat. Because the scooter bike is built in such an aerodynamic form, the seat is made to be as slim as possible. This does not make it very comfortable to sit on which is where the padding in the cycling shorts makes a difference.

Your ability to pedal into the wind resistance is what propels you down the road. Many cyclists use a special shoe and pedal combination which helps deliver a more efficient pedal stroke to the bike. The shoes clip into the pedal via a cleat on the bottom of the shoe that connects firmly onto the pedal mechanism. This allows the cyclist to focus more power on the pedal and can both pull up and push down on the pedal stroke.

Helmets are necessary due to safety concerns. However, the shape of most helmets are built so that they are as aerodynamic as possible. The front of the helmet is rounded toward the side and back. Numerous air vents are built in to the helmet for comfort on hot and humid rides.

Motorcycle gloves are worn to help absorb the road shock. The gloves have padding built into the palm. Most bicycling gloves do not fully cover the fingers. The reason for this is it makes it much easier to grasp fully the brakes when needing to slow down or stop. The gloves do not necessarily help with aerodynamics, but they do make the ride more comfortable, which gives you more energy to ride and fight the air resistance.

Bikers love to ride. They may look different in their gear, but it is out of necessity that they wear what they do. The fight is against wind resistance. They look no stranger than a football player or race car driver in their gear. The difference is a biker has to use the gear in public every time they venture out to ride his bike and wage the battle against air resistance.

What is a Stock?

A bull market is defined by steadily rising prices. The economy is thriving and companies are generally making a profit. Most investors feel that this trend will continue for some time. By contrast a bear market is one where prices are dropping. The economy is probably in a decline and many companies are experiencing difficulties. Now the investors are pessimistic about the future profitability of the stock market. Since investors’ attitudes tend to drive their willingness to buy or sell these trends normally perpetuate themselves until significant outside events intervene to cause a reversal of opinion.

You will in effect be borrowing shares from your broker to sell in the hope of buying them back later when the price has dropped. You will profit from the difference in the two prices. Another strategy for a bear market would be buying defensive stocks. These are stocks like utility companies that are not affected by the market downturn or companies that sell their products during all economic conditions.

Brokers

Traditionally investors bought and sold stock through large brokerage houses. They made a phone call to their broker who relayed their order to the exchange floor. These brokers also offered their services as stock advisors to people who knew very little about the market. These people relied on their broker to guide them and paid a hefty price in commissions and fees as a result. The advent of the Internet has led to a new class of brokerage houses. These firms provide on-line accounts where you may log in and buy and sell stocks from anywhere you can get an Internet connection. They usually don’t offer any market advice and only provide order execution. Blue Chip Stocks

My Crest Spinbrush

The Crest Spinbrush was my first electric toothbrush. It is not as advanced as other electric toothbrushes out there but it does the job. It has the most basic of features no frills such as timers and blinking lights. It does not even have a rechargeable battery pack. Ask yourself though what do you really need from an electric toothbrush?

The Crest Spinbrush is a very practical, solid electric toothbrush. It is not too heavy and is comfortable in the hand. The power button is right in the middle of the thick handle and slides up and down, locking well into place. The toothbrush head is shaped like a tear drop and is divided into two parts. It is the circular upper part that rotates. This is great because it reaches into the far corners of your mouth to clean the hard-to-reach teeth and gums. Since the head rotates, there is no need for you to agonize over trying to manually brush so far back.

The brush doesnt come with a case for traveling but it does have a clear hard plastic cover for the head. If the brush is to be used mainly at home then the cover will be adequate. If you plan to lug it around during trips, you should place it in some other protective case as the head cover is easily removed.

When the brush bristles start to fray, you do not have to throw the whole gadget away. Head replacements are easy to come by. It is just as easy to take them off as well. All you need to do is twist the head firmly.

The Crest Spinbrush does not have a rechargeable battery pack. All you need are two size AA batteries and you are ready to go. The battery compartment is at the bottom of the handle. Thats what actually makes the toothbrush stand up on its end given that you have batteries inside of course. This is another great thing about the Spinbrush. The battery compartment is very watertight and does not let water in, thus preserving the battery life.

When it comes to cleaning the teeth, the Spinbrush really does the job. Stains on the teeth that may be caused by build up from drinking too much coffee and smoking are not a problem. Of course it would be wise to use good quality toothpaste with your Spinbrush.

Prevent Bad Breath By Eliminating The Triggers

Bad breath simply comes and goes for some people. Perhaps we only wake up with bad breath in the morning. Or eating certain foods, like onion or pizza. These are more obvious triggers for bad breath. But the bacteria that release the volatile sulfur compounds of bad breath find a great breeding ground in tongues that are coated or lined with cracks. Mucous and phlegm also contain proteins, and these bacteria exist to break down proteins. So if you suffer from phlegmatic nasal conditions, there’s a good chance there is an associated increase in bad breath.

However, despite any existing conditions like fissured tongues or excess phlegm, that are more difficult to change, there are things we can avoid to minimize bad breath occurring.

What makes bad breath worse?

  • A dry mouth:
    Saliva keeps bad breath at bay because it is rich in oxygen. The bacteria that lead to symptoms of bad breath are anaerobic bacteria, meaning they live in an environment that does not have oxygen. When you have a dry mouth you’re creating an environment that is more similar to their ‘home’, one that has little oxygen. So the bacteria thrive, and so does bad breath.

That’s why it has a ‘soapy’ or foaming effect. Because it is a soap, it has a drying effect in your mouth. This of course leads to bad breath. It has also been linked to canker sores, and many people who suffer from these have found relief by switching to a toothpaste that doesn’t contain SLS.

The Sultanate of Oman is the second largest country on the Arabian Peninsula, lying along its southeast corner. It has a total land area of 300,000 square kilometres and a population of over two million.

The Musandam, separated from the rest of Oman by the United Arab Emirates, is the northernmost part of the Sultanate.

Due to its geographical position and mountainous terrain it was isolated from the rest of Oman and the region developed at its own pace. Graded roads cut across the mountains have now made it more accessible. The grandeur of Musandam can best be explored by sea.

Musandam Peninsula has an abundance of sheltered fjords, some only connected to the mainland by narrow cliffs. Fjords, or khors, created by fragmented rock stretching claw-like into the sea and massive overshadowing cliffs towering above are magnificently reflected in the water below.

The coast juts into the Strait of Hormuz and extends some 600 kilometres. These spectacular fjords have given the area a second name The Norway of Arabia The Strait of Hormuz is only 60km wide and does not exceed 60m in depth and is of strategic importance to Oman as 90% of all the Gulf’s oil trade passes through this area.

The only dive center is the Extra Divers Dive Center located in the “Golden Tulip Hotel” in Khasab, which is the capital of the most northerly province of Musandam.

The total population of Musandam is approximately 27,000 and the capital Khasab has 18,000 inhabitants. Dibba on the East coast of Musandam has a population of approximately 5,500. The Peninsula begins with Tibat, on the west coast in the Arabian Gulf to Daba (Dibba), on the east coast in the Gulf of Oman, this coastal zone, along with many offshore islands, offers a unique contact with nature. Small villages nestle along the tortuous shoreline, most of them only accessible by sea, like Lima and Kumzar.

Its rugged mountains rise up over 2,000 meters above sea level. In Arabic it is known as Ra’s Musandam. The Ru’us al-Jibal (the Mountaintops), the northernmost extremity of the al-Gharbi al-Hajar (Western Hajar mountains), occupy the northern tip of the Musandam Peninsula. The peninsula is generally about 35 km wide.

The peninsula is mainly inhabited by the Shihuh, who are fishermen and herdsmen and are probably descended from the original inhabitants of northern Oman. Fishing is the peninsula’s main industry with packing plants at al-Khasab and Bay’ah. Transportation is mostly by sea, since no roads cross the forbidding terrain.

The history of Argos

Argos is an ancient Greek city which is part of the prefecture of Argolis, in the region of the Peloponnese. It has four main subdivisions: Kokla, Larissa, Akova, and Timenio. This city has gone through several interesting historical events, and its past is among the main factors which attract tourists to its lands.

During the Mycenaean times, the city of Argos was an important stronghold, and was seen by the rest of the region as a strategic spot. This area was one of the first spots in the region in being inhabited and to become a town, only equaled by the acropolis of Tiryns and Mycenae.

In the Homeric times, the city of Argos was ruled by a follower of Agamemnon, and the name of the district in which this city is located, Argolis, was originated from such poque. Later, during the Romans, the region would be known as Argeia since that was the name given by these inhabitants.

During the Persian War, Argos was asked to fight and refused to do so, which caused it to be somehow despised by many of the neighboring cities for certain period of time. This was one of the most critical and difficult moments in the history of Argos, although it was soon overcome and become part of the past.

At beginnings of the 12th century, one of the most interesting constructions of Argos was built, the Castle of Larissa. Besides this construction, this city and its surroundings have received several amazing buildings and constructions as time passed by, some of them can be still seen.

Nowadays, the city of Argos is the largest city in the prefecture of Argolis, and one of the most visited by tourists as well. Argolis’ economy is mainly based on agriculture, and oranges as well as other critics are among the main resources of the city. A tablet PC is a light weight slate shaped hand-held computer or a slim note book PC. The idea is to replace the traditional pen and notebook with a tablet PC and stylus or digital pen. In this type of computers the data input is not through the traditional mouse and keyboard but through a stylus or a virtual keyboard on the screen. Ciphering the Tagalog Language

Learning the Tagalog Language is essential if you plan to communicate in the Philippines. Tagalog is sometimes also called Filipino or the Pilipino Language. So as not to get confused, let me explain the difference between the terminologies. Tagalog is the national language of the Philippines. It is spoken by about 23% of the population. The remaining spoken languages. the remaining 77%, is divided among approximately 175 other dialects. Tagalog, being the Official National Language of the Philippines, is considered as the base language. If you look at the other dialects, you will see numerous Tagalog and Tagalog derivatives in them. So learning Tagalog is essential.

That being said, you may wonder what Filipino or Pilipino is. This is a combination of both Tagalog and other dialects and languages. Filipino or sometimes Pilipino (its older name) is an amalgamation of all the Philippines languages, English and Spanish combined together. Since English as well as Tagalog is taught in the schools in the Philippines, many people tend to speak Tagalog with English words mixed in the sentence. At that point they are talking Filipino.

Stupid Things Stupid Businesses Do

Of course businesses aren’t stupid, in fact the people in the businesses aren’t stupid (I’m being kind), but they become stupid as the people in them act stupidly. How so? Im about to explain.

Stupid businesses dont grow right. They treat their customers badly. Its likely that they dont want to but they do because they have an environment of treating people badly. Employees are treated badly and they, in turn, treat the customers in like manner.

1. They dont care about the customer

2. Theyre rude or inattentive

3. They do bad work

I know there are reasons they act this way. I was in a store recently and the cashier was so worn down that she looked like a zombie. Glassy-eyed, she hardly knew I was there. She couldnt ring a particular item up right and offered no solution to the problem. No help. It was fun to pull her out of it and find a smile, but that was for a moment and then she was back to longing for the day to end.

Last week my daughter saw an employee at a Subway drive everyone out of the building. Literally. Ive had it with this place!, she said. Once she got everyone out she locked the door!

That comes from above. Managers are above. Stupid managers make stupid businesses. Stupid managers:

1. Overwork employees

2. Command in all things

3. Dont accept feedback or suggestions

4. Frequently criticize and nit pick

5. Rarely give praise or recognition

6. Lazily expect subordinates to do their work for them

7. Yell and act in a mean manner

That creates an atmosphere for stupid employees. I have a son that works at a grocery store. His manager takes 10-15 smoke breaks a day. He comes back and finds that a yogurt container isnt facing the right way and goes ballistic. Its sad. Another son works in a clothing department. His manager always has it in her mind that the womens part of the department is trashed. Get over there and clean it up, its terrible! Whether it is or not, thats her message. Its never right, its never good, and she doesnt want to hear any different.

Above managers in the small business world are owners. Stupid small business owners make stupid small businesses. Let me put emphasis on small, I dont mean small in size here, but small in quality and integrity.

1. They provide no real incentives to perform well

2. They are self serving without regard for employees

3. They underpay, giving only what they have to

Ive seen a business owner pit manager against employees, lie to customers, negotiate in bad faith, and do all things for their own aggrandizement and benefit. The business started in a great, innovative way but became small because of the owner. The source for good or bad in the small business.

Stupid businesses are remarkable but not in a positive way. The famous line from Forest Gump is true, Stupid is as stupid does. Stupid businesses dont grow like they could, like the owner would really like them to grow. They can be planted in a good spot, sprout and start, but they will never get the powerful fertilizer of referrals or the life giving water of returning customers to grow into what they have the potential to become.

Clustering may mean to have two or more computer systems working together or multiple servers linked together for the purpose of handling variable workloads as well as to provide continued operation in case one fails. It may also refer to data clustering which is a technique used for data analysis by dividing a data set into subsets whose elements share common traits. Search result clustering aims to change the way people search online by organizing search result into folders that group similar items together.

Why Clustering is Needed

The use of the vast information available online cannot be maximized unless an effective means of organizing it can be provided. Clustering engines put search results together based on textual and linguistic similarity. This basic similarity is supported by heuristics which are coded by programmers using as basis the users preference on what they want to see on clustered documents. Clusters are presented using the style of folders and sub-folders.

When a search engine provides millions of results for a particular query, the searcher can either sift through the endless pages of results or depend on the search engines judgment as to the most relevant results. Neither can ensure that the targeted information can be accessed as it may remain buried under pages of results or it may not meet the search engines criteria. In the same way that all other things are clustered or organized, the world of web searching would be more useful once given the benefit of organized search results.

This is because clustering engines does not reproduce results with similar descriptions. Clusters are specific enough that repeated documents are very rare. Some are able to offer advanced search features which allows searchers to specify which sources should be searched, the number of results desired, allowable waiting time, the desired language to be used and the filtering out of offensive contents.

Search Engines that Clusters

Google Sets do not provide results but rather helps in finding similar terms to the ones entered. This allows the user to create more complex queries in one area and brainstorm on how to put a search together. Google Sets is Google Labs clustering agent.

Wisenut is a full-text search engine which provides for related topics aside from a number of results for any search item entered. This is called the WiseGuide. Some results would have subtopics which will show underneath the clustered results. A link can be found next to each of the clustered results whose keywords can be used to run another search. A different set of clustered results shall be produced in addition to the web page results. This search engine has been bought by LookSmart.

Teoma has been dubbed as the Google Killer due to its very interesting clustering technology. A single search run will produce four sets of results. Those found at the top left are sponsored results, those found at the bottom are website non-sponsored results, those at the top right are the suggestions for refining the result and those at the bottom right are link calculations from experts and enthusiasts. The link collections are suitable for general information needs while the suggestions are for more specific searches. A click on any would signal the search to run again where a different set of site results shall be provided. Teoma has been purchased by AskJeeves.

Infonetware.com is more of a demonstration of Infonetwares Real Term Technology than a search engine. The results page is framed where the area on the left provides topics related to the search term while the web page search results are found on the right frame. It works with full searching.

Oingo uses the open Directory Project as its search source. The search results page gives a drop-down list of potential meanings. The list of categories in order of relevance to the search can be found beneath it as well as the site results from the directory itself. It is more useful for general term searches or search terms that are in a broad category.

Vivisimo is a meta-search engine that clusters its results. It provides a very simple front page with search results that are organized in groups. The page design makes it easy to explore several categories without having to lose your place. Clusty is the consumer search destination powered and owned by Vivisimo. It queries results from Ask, MSN, Open Directory, LookSmart, Gigablast and WiseNut. These sites were chosen because of their accurate results and quick return speeds.

Query Server offers several types of search on the left side of the front page. Each search has more or less the same interface and all cluster results. Search results are presented in a frame at the right side of the site.

Surfwax offers both subscription based and free services. A focus link can be seen in the upper left corner after a search is entered. These focus words can be used in addition to the search term. They are divided into narrower or broader categories and contain generic words and not links to specific people or places.

Northern Light News search requires a search to have a certain number of results in order to be clustered into folders. However, folder listing does not provide information about the contents of a particular folder although there are subfolders provided for broad topics. Search results are listed by order of date.

Clustering search engines break up several hundred results into manageable packages. Suggestions are provided so that the use of information is maximized and the search itself a lot easier. A search query cannot always be specific enough to target the right information at once.
